Lampeter/Bore Community Carbon Link is a unique initiative that connects Lampeter and West Wales with Bore in Eastern Kenya through the medium of carbon. It recognises that here in Wales we have a very large per capita carbon footprint and that we have a big responsibility to try and reduce the damage that we are causing to the atmosphere. The latest research indicates that we get the strongest cooling effect from trees and forests in tropical latitudes and since the community of Bore is located right next to The Equator, it is an ideal place to plant trees to address climate change.
How does it work?
Any individual, business or school in the West Wales area can join the scheme by sponsoring the planting of trees or protection of existing forest with the partner community in Bore (pronounced Boray).
How much does it cost?
To sponsor the planting of one cashew tree costs £2.50
To sponsor the protection of 200 square metres of tropical forest costs £10. The admin costs for this project are covered by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Gold Star Communities Scheme so every penny that is spent goes out to the community in Bore.
